In the Fall 2021 semester, the Division of DEI launched the University's first-ever campus climate survey, the Belonging Survey. This anonymous tool allowed students, faculty, and staff to provide feedback regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus. Over 6,000 student, faculty, and staff shared their thoughts and feedback through the survey, propelling us forward to make our University community more diverse, equitable, and inclusive than ever before.
A report summarizing the survey's findings will be released by September 2022. Please join our mailing list if you want to sign up for updates on its publication and other DEI matters.

We understand that providing feedback and sharing some of experiences may be triggering. If you would like to seek out support, Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Office of Employee Assistance (OEA) are available to support students and faculty/staff, respectively. The Victim Empowerment Program (VEP) is also a resource for students, faculty, and staff who have experienced violence.
Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)
CAPS offers programs and services with licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, and trainees with expertise dealing with student concerns and development. Students who are currently registered at Florida International University are eligible to utilize these services and participate in the programs. The services offered by CAPS are funded by the student health fee and therefore free to currently enrolled students. Services include:
- Group Counseling
- Individual and Couples Counseling
- Medication Management
- Trauma and Victimization
- Office of Social Justice and Inclusion Trainings

Victim Empowerment Program (VEP)
The VEP’s mission is to provide free confidential assistance to FIU students, faculty, staff and university visitors who have been victimized through threatened or actual violence and to support the healing process. In addition, the center seeks to enhance safety and promote healthy relationships by sponsoring awareness activities, prevention education, peer education and collaborating with university officials. Through clinical practice and research, the VEP aims to contribute to the body of knowledge and influence public policy regarding issues related to victimization.

Office of Employee Assistance (OEA)
The OEA is the faculty and staff employee assistance program at FIU. The OEA provides free confidential professional assistance to help employees and their families resolve personal problems that affect their lives or job performance. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of FIU faculty and staff, improve personal effectiveness, and to create a healthier campus community by providing mental health assessments, brief interventions and/or referrals, small group facilitations, crisis responses, and customized educational and training programs.
