Accessibility @ FIU is a resource for students, faculty, and staff to learn about and facilitate access to the services and support available to them. Students, faculty, and staff who encounter any challenges in accessing courses or any university program, may contact the Accessibility team for support.
Faculty and Staff
FIU is committed to ensuring equal access to educational and employment opportunities for qualified individuals with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as well as other applicable state and local laws and university policy. Under the ADA, qualified individuals with disabilities are protected from discrimination and may be entitled to reasonable accommodations and/or equal access to programs and services. FIU's policy on Reasonable Accommodations for Faculty, Staff, Employment Candidates, and Visitors is linked in the University’s policy library.
FIU has a long-standing policy of employing qualified persons with disabilities in a broad range of positions across the institution. On occasion, the nature of an individual’s disability may require them to receive a work-site accommodation. The Office of Civil Rights Compliance and Accessibility (CRCA) serves as a resource for employees who have documented a qualified disability and need reasonable accommodations to perform essential job functions.
Employees should direct their requests for accommodations to CRCA. Employees who wish to request accommodations for a disability must submit the following forms along with supporting documentation to CRCA:
- Employee Accommodation Request Form (Must be completed by the Employee.)
- Release of Information Form (Must be completed by the Employee.)
- Physician Verification of Accommodation Form (The employee’s approved job description must be submitted to, and reviewed by the physician or health care provider at the time the physician verification form is completed by the physician or health care provider. The approved job description can be requested through CRCA.)
- Physician Letter (Must be completed by the Employee.)
If you are seeking accommodations for a university program offered to the public both on and/or off-campus, please complete the Public Event Accommodation Request form.
The university’s ADA and Accessibility Coordinator is:

Office Number: (305) 348-2785
Address: 11200 S.W. 8th Street, Primera Casa 220

Reasonable accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis and are based on the documentation provided. The university’s ADA and Accessibility Coordinator will meet individually with the employee who is seeking accommodations to discuss needs and options. Once all required documentation has been submitted, verified, and reviewed, CRCA will coordinate efforts with the appropriate parties to ensure the approved accommodation is provided to the employee.
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) at Florida International University’s aim is to guide and support students with disabilities throughout their college experience. From transitioning into FIU to graduating, the DRC’s goal is to assist Panthers in becoming successful.
Should you need an ADA accommodation to participate in a University event, program, or activity or need to request materials in an accessible format, please contact FIU’s Office of Civil Rights Compliance and Accessibility (CRCA) at 305-348-2785 or email@example.com.
